Por do sol nublado é, praticamente, o tudo ou nada. O espetáculo fantástico de cores ou um anoitecer cinzento sem qualquer tom quente a romper as nuvens.

One afternoon earlier in the spring I noticed this striking Sun pillar on the western horizon. It was visible for more than 30 minutes. After the Sun had set it turned red and pink (lower right photo). If ice crystals are stacked horizontally in cirrus clouds and tipped in the direction of the viewer, then the Sun’s waning light is reflected in the form of a column or spike. Note also the extended sundogs on either side of the pillar, approximately 22 degrees from it and the position of the Sun. Photo taken on April 16, 2018.

The river (Rio Alcabrichel) flooded the road, providing rare conditions which gave an amazing new perspective of the place. The silhouettes of the hills and the tree were reflected on the water along with the colours of the sunset.
O Rio Alcabrichel inundou a estrada, proporcionando condições incomuns que deram uma nova e espetacular perspetiva deste local. As silhuetas dos montes e do pinheiro refletiram-se na água juntamente com as cores do pôr-do-sol.
I was driving home and I saw this light pillar (sun pillar) on the horizon, unfortunately I didn’t bring my camera so I photographed it with my cell phone. It was visible for more than 30 minutes and after the sunset the light turned red and pink.
Eu estava a conduzir para casa e vi este pilar de luz no horizonte, infelizmente eu não tinha a minha câmara, então fotografei com o meu telemóvel. Foi visível por mais de 30 minutos e após o pôr-do-sol a luz ficou vermelha e rosa.

On a cold shadowy afternoon, I decided to go to Porto Novo beach and I was surprised by the faint yellow shines reflecting on the foam, making this unusual scenery.
Numa tarde fria e pouco luminosa, decidi passar pela Praia de Porto Novo e fui surpreendido por ténues brilhos amarelos que se refletiam na espuma das ondas, dando origem a este invulgar cenário.
Global Warming brings us more and more the inconveniences of the frequent atypical storms for this region and time of the year. This was a record of the track left by the Felix storm at Santa Rita beach, where fortunately it didn’t cause any damage. In the middle of gale and rain a moment of peace happened. Besides the adverse conditions the persistence paid up, rewarded by some sun beams.
O aquecimento global traz-nos, cada vez mais, as inconveniências das frequentes tempestades atípicas para a época e região. Este foi um registo do rasto deixado pela tempestade Félix na Praia de Santa Rita, onde felizmente não causou danos. No meio de um vendaval e chuva surge um momento de paz.
Apesar das condições adversas valeu a persistência, recompensada por uns raios de sol.
Moments like these turn a common landscape into a masterpiece. Those are rare and fleeting, but when these amazing conditions meet it is a great pleasure to be able to enjoy them and to photograph.
São momentos como este que tornam uma paisagem habitual numa obra de arte. São raros e fugazes, mas, quando estas impressionantes condições se reúnem é um grande prazer poder apreciá-las e registá-las.
Lately, the rough sea prevails for weeks turning the beach into a compact and washed sand. The white foam contrasts with the dark colour of the sand.
Nos últimos tempos, a forte agitação marítima prolongou-se por várias semanas tornando a praia num areal compactado e lavado. A espuma na rebentação das ondas contrasta com a cor da areia escurecida.
The winter solstice with the shortest day and the longest night of the year. It also marks the sunset in the southernmost point, cycles that are repeated annually and of great importance for the Humankind.
O Solstício de Inverno com o dia mais curto e a noite mais longa do ano. Marca também o pôr-do-sol mais a Sul, ciclos que se repetem anualmente e de grande importância para a humanidade.

If a scenery like this seems perfect to us it’s because there is a perfection standard for the majority of humans. If this standard is a collective memory, perhaps its existence is true on the deeps of our subconscious.
Se um cenário destes nos parece perfeito é porque existe um padrão de perfeição para a maioria dos humanos. Se esse padrão é uma memória coletiva, talvez a sua existência seja verídica nas profundezas do subconsciente.
Here the representation of the four elements: Earth, Water, Air and Fire. Fire being a distant element, yet well present on life’s evolution that the Sun has made possible.
